There are days when regional promotion crosses national borders to reach the most prestigious classrooms on the continent. December 11 and 12, 2025, were two such days.
The Oltregiogo Association was invited to the heart of the EU institutions, to the Alcide De Gasperi Room of the European Parliament in Brussels, to attend a ceremony in which our “neighbors” played a starring role.
A triumph for Liguria and the Stura Valley
The event, organized by ACES Europe, celebrated excellence in sport as a form of culture and well-being. It was with great pleasure that we applauded two prestigious awards given to entities with which our region shares borders and history:
- The Liguria Region received the Gold Flag as Best European Region for Sport 2025, accepted by Regional Councilor for Sport Simona Ferro.
- The Stura Valley has been awarded the title of European Community of Sport 2026, an achievement celebrated in the presence of the President of the Metropolitan City of Genoa and Mayor, Silvia Salis.
The role of the Association: goal for 2028
Our presence in Brussels was not merely representative. The Association’s President, Dino Angelini, participated in the proceedings with a specific goal in mind: to transform these successes into a driving force for the entire Oltregiogo region.
Together with its partners in the Stura Valley and the governing bodies of ACES Europe, the Oltregiogo Association has officially launched discussions on a new, ambitious challenge: to nominate the Oltregiogo area as a European Community of Sport 2028.
A valuable strategy for the region
For the Association, obtaining this recognition would mean providing our municipalities with a powerful tool for:
- Networking: uniting administrations under a single sporting and cultural banner.
- Attracting tourism: positioning Oltregiogo as a preferred destination for active tourism at the European level.
- Promoting identity: demonstrating that our geographical area, although divided administratively, is united in its ambitions and potential.
We return from Brussels with the knowledge that the path has been laid out. Liguria and the Stura Valley will take center stage in 2025 and 2026; the Association will work hard to ensure that 2028 will be the year of consecration for Oltregiogo.
